Adrian Peterson was a healthy scratch for the Washington Redskins in Week 1, after serving as the team's lead back in the 2018 season. But after Derrius Guice suffered a knee injury that's expected to sideline him for at least a month, Peterson came out as Washington's starter for a Week 2 matchup with the Dallas Cowboys.
And the 34-year-old wasted no time in establishing that he's still a force to be reckoned, at least when it comes to fantasy football. Peterson scored 11 PPR fantasy points in the first half alone.
While Peterson does cede passing-down work to Chris Thompson, his rushing volume is not at all in question. He finished fifth in the NFL with 251 rush attempts last season, and tallied eight of the team's 12 non-QB rush attempts this afternoon, along with eight of the nine that went to RBs.
His top-20 RB fantasy football production in 2018 didn't rely on receiving volume either, with just 26 targets on the year.
On the surface this looked like a tough fantasy matchup for Peterson, with Washington coming in as heavy underdogs, but he's still well on his way to a big fantasy outing.
Peterson has quickly re-established himself as an every-week RB2, at least until Guice proves that he's healthy again.
