In the NFL, nothing says mediocre like an 8-8 record. So when thinking about the NFL's most middle-of-the-road team, organizations like the 8-8 Las Vegas Raiders or 8-8 Arizona Cardinals certainly come to mind.

But those clubs will have to move aside, because no one was more mediocre than the 2020 Minnesota Vikings.

Looking at net yardage gained and allowed, the Vikings' offense put up 6,292 net yards, while the defense allowed 6,292 net yards. That's just absurd.

Obviously, this is more of a funny statistical anomaly than anything else, but it's a pretty solid microcosm of the team's 2020 season. The Vikings were just kind of bland.

The offense was slightly above average, but it wasn't good enough to make up for some significant regression on the defensive end. And while Kirk Cousins played alright, he didn't do enough to take an otherwise-loaded offense over the top.

Unless this team undergoes some major offseason shakeups, it seems this version of the Vikings is always destined to finish somewhere in the middle of the pack – that's not a good place to be in the NFL.

GM Rick Spielman has his work cut out for him this offseason.
