Jason Witten shocked the NFL world on Thursday morning, as the future Hall of Famer announced he's returning to football and signing a one-year, $5-million deal with the Dallas Cowboys. And Witten projects to provide more value as an NFL player than he ever did as a color commentator

With that said, let's break down Witten's stats and take a look at his fantasy football value now that he's back with the Cowboys.

Jason Witten Career Stats

Witten is one of the most consistent tight ends in NFL history. Over the course of his illustrious career, Witten amassed 1,152 receptions, 12,448 receiving yards and 68 receiving touchdowns.

Rob Gronkowski would certainly support Witten's return, as Witten is just one touchdown shy of Gronk's favorite number.

Witten's production has certainly tailed off in recent years, but he can still be a valuable contributor. In his last season with the Cowboys, Witten caught 63 passes for 560 yards and five touchdowns.

Jason Witten 2019 Fantasy Value

Assuming Witten kept himself in shape, it's fair to assume that he will produce similar numbers to his 2017 campaign. Witten isn't exactly a high-upside player at this point in his career, but he figures to soak up targets as Dak Prescott's safety blanket, making him a valuable fantasy asset in PPR formats.

And Witten gets to play alongside Amari Cooper and Ezekiel Elliott, who figure to draw most of the attention from opposing defenses.

Ultimately, Witten's return to the NFL is certainly surprising, but it actually makes more sense than you might think. Witten fills a real need for Dallas, and fantasy owners should target Witten as a low-end TE1 or high-end TE2 in 2019 fantasy drafts.
