Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes has been around college basketball for a long time. Prior to accepting the job at Tennessee, Barnes was the head coach at the Univerity of Texas from 1998-2015. Before that, he was at Clemson from 1994-1998, and Providence from 1988-1994.

When you're around the game that long, you develop relationships with the referees. You also have plenty of stories to tell.

Well, prior to tip-off in the Tennessee-Vanderbilt game, Barnes was caught on a hot mic by the SEC Network's broadcast telling a story about his history with referee Teddy Valentine. A story that clearly pointed to him not being a fan of Valentine.

Barnes story was about when Valentine "made a mockery" out of the game by handing out a technical foul in the final seconds of a game that was already decided back when Barnes was at Texas. Barnes did not take too kindly to this at the time and clearly has not let it leave his memory.

Luckily there didn't seem to be any repeat of these issues in Tuesday night's game. Despite not playing their best basketball, Barnes and the Volunteers came away with the win over Vandy.
