With 12 weeks of the NFL season having come and gone, and the postseason right around the corner, it's pretty clear who the top dogs are.


Just a few weeks ago, it looked like the NFL MVP award was all but being handed to the Chiefs' QB Pat Mahomes, but it's now a race between the second-year signal caller and a man who likely should have won the award a long, long time ago. New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees now leads the NFL's top team at 10-1 as well as the MVP odds, according to ​FandDuel Sportsbook.

As fantastic as Todd Gurley (+3000) was been, this is and always will be a quarterback's award.


Mahomes is coming off a classic performance with six touchdowns and more than 400 yards, but Brees has still thrown eight touchdowns and just one interception in the past two weeks. His game against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 11 is still resonating with Saints fans, and a Week 12 performance against the Atlanta Falcons where ​he threw touchdowns to undrafted free agents on Thanksgiving is impressive in itself.

​A dark horse that could still snag this award is Chargers' QB Philip Rivers at +2300 following another big game where he threw for 259 yards and three touchdowns while completing 28-of-29 passes. 

Right now, it looks like a two-horse race between Mahomes and Brees with a bunch of others players lagging behind for this year's MVP.
