The Jacksonville Jaguars have finally pulled the plug on Blake Bortles, a day after losing to the Buffalo Bills 24-21. It was also the seventh consecutive loss for the Jags and their eighth in nine games. Bortles himself is now 7-28 in 35 career starts on the road.

Former USC standout quarterback Cody Kessler gets the nod for a Jacksonville offense that has only scored more than 20 points twice during the seven-game losing stream. Kessler has only seen one game of action for the Jags this season, going 21-for-30 with 156 passing yards, one touchdown, and one interception against the Houston Texans in relief of the ineffective Bortles back in Week 7.

In his NFL career, Kessler's stats are 1,662 yards passing with 7 touchdowns and 4 interceptions.

The move creates even more chaos to the whole Bortles' saga in Jacksonville. Bortles' contract includes $26.5 million in guarantees as part of the three-year, $54 million contract he signed last offseason. The Jaguars knew the risk going into this deal, so there's really no one to blame but themselves.

Perhaps the Jags could've held off on the benching for one more week. After all, Bortles has thrown for 14 touchdowns and three interceptions in nine career games against the Colts.

Now, all of that production could be in the hands of Kessler, making him an interesting streaming option at quarterback this week.
