Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Rams running back Todd Gurley are both off to historic starts, respectively.
Let's start with Mahomes, who had yet another MVP-type performance, going 28-for-39 for 358 passing yards, four touchdowns, and one interception while adding 45 yards on the ground against the Cincinnati Bengals. Those four touchdowns gave him 22 through the first eight games of his career -- an NFL record.
Patrick Mahomes pushed his 2018 season total to 190.9 fantasy points last night.— Tristan H. Cockcroft (@SultanofStat) October 22, 2018
Top five QBs in fantasy points through 7 team games (since 1950):
Steve Young, 1998: 202.5
Peyton Manning, 2013: 194.3
Patrick Mahomes, 2018: 190.9
Aaron Rodgers, 2011: 188.4
Tom Brady, 2015: 186.4
From a statistical standpoint, Gurley's Sunday wasn't as impressive as Mahomes', but he did manage to find the end zone three times in their game against the San Francisco 49ers. The former Georgia Bulldog now has 14 touchdowns through seven games, tying him with Priest Holmes for most over that span.
We all know the NFL and its fans wanted to see more offense going forward, so there's certainly no feelings of disappointment there. With the video-game-type numbers that Gurley and Mahomes are putting up each week, there's no doubt the NFL is in good hands for the future.
