Injuries plagued the season of the San Francisco 49ers, crushing their dreams of returning to the Super Bowl. One of the more notable injuries on the team was suffered by their young stud pass rusher, Nick Bosa.
Bosa suffered a season-ended ACL injury, which was devastating to a defense that dominated the season prior. With Bosa firmly in the middle of rehab on his knee, Niners fans received a worrying update on the injury.
The surgeon that performed the surgery on Bosa was recently interviewed. While he did say Bosa is ahead of schedule in his rehab, the doctor noted that he is not out of the woods quite yet.
In the interview, the surgeon said multiple times that the injury was more than just a simple ACL repair. He called it "more extensive" and that it was a bigger injury, meaning the initial report of just a torn ACL may only cover part of the injury. This could put the recovery time for Bosa back even further.
The surgeon also said that just 67.2 percent of players that tear their ACL return to the field. While Bosa is a young, athletic guy that should be able to make a full recovery, it is still a bit concerning for the 2021 season.
