The San Francisco 49ers have been actively searching for a new starting quarterback this offseason, being linked to trades for Matthew Stafford, Sam Darnold and Deshaun Watson. While San Fran hasn't found their Jimmy Garoppolo replacement yet, they could turn to the NFL Draft.
Pro Football Focus' latest mock draft projects an exciting trade up for the 49ers.
Justin Fields 49ers
PFF sees San Francisco trading with the Atlanta Falcons to move from the No. 12 pick all the way up to No. 4, using that selection to take Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields. This is the kind of aggressive move the 49ers will have to make if they want a shot at a top QB in this year's draft class.
There's a ton to love about Fields. He threw for 5,373 yards and 63 touchdowns with just 9 INTs across two seasons with the Ohio State Buckeyes, adding another 867 yards and 15 scores on the ground.
Fields' 385-yard, 6-TD performance against Clemson in the Sugar Bowl showcased the talent he has that's just waiting to be maximized. With a QB whisperer in Kyle Shanahan as his head coach, and in an offense loaded with weapons, it's exciting to think about what Fields could do in San Francisco.
