The San Francisco 49ers shocked the NFL world by trading up to No. 3 in the 2021 NFL Draft with the Miami Dolphins. The move was clearly made with a quarterback in mind, as teams don't give up that kind of capital unless it's for a QB.

While the buzz currently seems to be centered around the debate between Mac Jones, Justin Fields and Trey Lance, 49ers' beat writer Matt Maiocco floated another shocking scenario. Maiocco posits that the team could trade up again, this time to No. 2 overall, in an effort to land Zach Wilson.

Zach Wilson 49ers Rumors

Wilson is unlikely to be there at No. 3, as the entire NFL world seems pretty certain the New York Jets are picking him No. 2 overall. And it's not completely insane to think San Francisco could attempt to orchestrate another trade.

Oddly enough, the 49ers were on the other side of a remarkably similar situation back in the 2017 NFL Draft. The Chicago Bears surrendered the No. 3 pick along with their third- and fourth-round selections that year and another future third-rounder to move up to No. 2 to select Mitchell Trubisky.

If the 49ers are sold on Wilson being their guy, they could give up a similar haul in a potential trade with the Jets.

The move would pretty much gut San Francisco's already limited draft capital, but no price is too high for a true franchise quarterback. If the 49ers believe Wilson is one, making a move like this would make a ton of sense.
