49ers Bringing in a Pair of High-Upside Defensive Linemen for a Visit

The San Francisco 49ers' front office is as savvy as it gets. John Lynch knows what this defense does well (rush the passer), and he's making smart moves to ensure that unit remains as dominant as it was in 2019.

San Francisco is bringing in Dion Jordan and Ezekiel Ansah for visits, and both defenders look like great low-risk, high-reward gambles for the team.

The 49ers defensive line is stacked with top-tier talent, but they could use a little more depth. Both Nick Bosa and Dee Ford dealt with injuries in 2019, while Arik Armstead and Javon Kinlaw will primarily be rushing the passer from the interior.

The rest of the team's depth off the edge does leave a little to be desired. Ronald Blair III is working his way back from a torn ACL, and former No. 3 overall pick Solomon Thomas seems more effective as an interior rusher.

Both Jordan and Ansah are dominant athletes and worthwhile gambles for a team in need of depth. Jordan has never really put together a great season, but his physical skillset is tantalizing. Ansah, meanwhile, is a former Pro Bowler, but he's struggled to stay healthy since that dominant 2015 campaign.

Thankfully, the 49ers wouldn't need either defender to be great, they'd just need them to keep Bosa and Ford fresh. Both should be more than capable of doing that.

It's certainly not flashy, but this is a really shrewd move by Lynch.
