Madison Bumgarner is one of the most reliable pitchers in baseball, but given the San Francisco Giants' horrible start, reports are indicating he may be available via trade. Unsurprisingly, there are a lot of suitors for the southpaw. Here are the four most likely trade destinations for Bumgarner.
4. New York Yankees
The New York Yankees have battled through a plethora of injuries this season, and they could use more depth at pitcher. The Yankees' ace, Luis Severino, doesn't look likely to return any time soon, and Bumgarner would be a great replacement. New York has a solid farm system, with talent like Deivi Garcia and Estevan Florial, so the Yankees should have enough prospects to facilitate a deal.
3. Philadelphia Phillies
The Philadelphia Phillies lead the NL East after signing Bryce Harper. But Aaron Nola has been disappointing, as he has a 5.68 ERA this season. Adding Bumgarner would be a great insurance policy for the playoffs in case Nola can't return to his usual self this season.
2. Seattle Mariners
The Seattle Mariners got off to a remarkable start this season, but they've cooled down lately. This team has lost seven of their last 10, and they could use some help at pitcher. Seattle also has a really talented farm system, headlined by players like Jarred Kelenic, Julio Rodriguez and Justus Sheffield.
1. Tampa Bay Rays
The Tampa Bay Rays are sitting atop the AL East, thanks in large part to their excellent pitching staff. If the Rays are looking to make a World Series run, Bumgarner and his postseason greatness could take them to the next level. Tampa Bay also has one of the most stacked farm systems in baseball, so it should be able to work out a deal for Bumgarner.
