The Jacksonville Jaguars failed to start the 2022 NFL season off with a win as they fell to the Washington Commanders by a score of 28-22 in Week 1. Failed red zone drives and a lack of defensive stops ultimately did them in, but the team showed a ton of fight compared to past years.

The Jaguars will get another chance to pull off an upset in Week 2 as they face the Indianapolis Colts. FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds currently lists them as a 4.5-point home underdog in that matchup. Lets' take a look at three reasons Jacksonville will emerge victorious when all is said and done.

Jaguars vs Colts Week 2

1. A No. 1 Overall Pick on Defense

The Jaguars' selection of defensive lineman Travon Walker in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft made an immediate impact. He looked like the best player on their defense in Week 1, racking up 4.0 tackles, 1.0 sack, 1 pass breakup and 1 interception. He also played in a reliable 83% of the defensive snaps. Jacksonville has been in need of players that can single-handedly change the game and Walker lines up to be that kind of player. The Houston Texans failed to put pressure on quarterback Matt Ryan in Week 1 and it cost them the win. Don't expect Jacksonville to make the same mistake.

2. The Emergence of Christian Kirk

Jacksonville had a plan to upgrade the wide receiver position this past offseason and executed that plan by signing Christian Kirk to a four-year deal worth $72 million. He acted as quarterback Trevor Lawrence's go-to target in Week 1, logging 117 yards on 6 receptions (19.5-yard average). Kirk has the ability to create mismatches in the slot and rack up yards after the catch, which will come in handy against an average Colts' secondary. Keep in mind Indianapolis allowed the third-most touchdowns to opposing WRS in 2021 (21). All signs point to another big performance from Kirk.

3. A Tendency to Play Tough

Divisional matchups are hardly ever a blowout because the teams are too familiar with one another for that to happen. The Jaguars have shown a tendency to always give the Colts a run for their money. In fact, these AFC South rivals have split their seasons series in each of the last four years. The home team came out on top in all eight of those matchups, too. The Jaguars handled the Colts by a score of 26-11 at TIAA Bank Field last season and have another shot to find similar success this time around. Home field advantage should never be overlooked in the NFL.
