One of the most likely pitchers to be on the move before the July 31 MLB Trade Deadline is Toronto Blue Jays starter Marcus Stroman. Now that the Blue Jays have been all but statistically eliminated from the postseason, Stroman is likely to be moved by Toronto before the calendar turns to August.
With Toronto in full sell mode, these are three of the most likely trade destinations for Stroman.
3. Atlanta Braves
While it has been reported that there are no active trade talks between Toronto and Atlanta, that can change pretty quickly around the MLB Trade Deadline. Plus, there is clearly interest, as the Braves had scouts on hand to watch Stroman's most recent start. The All-Star right-hander would provide much-needed stability to Atlanta's rotation, which has a 4.49 starter's ERA (No. 15 in MLB), coming into play on Tuesday.
2. Houston Astros
The Astros appear to be one of the frontrunners for Stroman as Houston has one of the deepest farm systems in baseball. Since he's not a rental and the team that acquires him will have control through the 2020 season, Stroman will cost more than some other deadline options. However, acquiring the All-Star pitcher would help round out Houston's starting rotation and give them a formidable 1-2-3 punch with Justin Verlander, Gerrit Cole and Stroman heading into the 2019 MLB postseason.
1. New York Yankees
While Stroman has quietly been among the best pitchers in the American League this season, the Yankees have surely taken notice of their division rival. With a 3.06 ERA and 93 strikeouts, Stroman could help fill one of the Yankees' biggest needs at the deadline – starting pitching. The native New Yorker appears to be an obvious fit for the Bronx Bombers and shipping outfielder Clint Frazier north of the border is a possible scenario leading up the July 31 MLB Trade Deadline.
