The Chicago White Sox being one of the most exciting teams in the MLB doesn't just stem from their terrific 63-45 record and 9.5-game lead on the AL Central. The real excitement comes from the fact that they're doing that with such a young core.
A young core and Jose Abreu, that is.
On Wednesday, Yoan Moncada wore an amazing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles shirt that honored how much of a mentor Abreu has been for the young bats on the South Side.
On the shirt, Abreu is Master Splinter (the Turtles' mentor) while Tim Anderson, Yoan Moncada, Eloy Jimenez and Luis Robert are the Ninja Turtles, having grown up with their mentor and now leading the way.
Moncada and Anderson are tied for the team lead in WAR on the season, at 2.9. Abreu still has plenty of tricks up his sleeve though, and he's sporting a 1.5 WAR with a .243/.332/.453 slash line across a team-leading 431 plate appearances.
This White Sox team is a ton of fun, and their third-ranked odds to win the World Series (+600) make things even more fun for fans in Chicago.
