The NCAA College Football bowl season has finally arrived and it features a number of exciting matchups. The 2021 Guaranteed Rate Bowl is set to take place on December 28 at 10:15 p.m. EST between the West Virginia Mountaineers and Minnesota Golden Gophers.

According to FanDuel Sportsbook, Minnesota is opening as a moderate favorite over West Virginia. The Golden Gophers are currently slated as 4-point favorites over the Mountaineers.

Guaranteed Rate Bowl Odds

Minnesota has odds set at -188 on the moneyline, while West Virginia is +152 to earn an outright win.

This should not come as a major surprise given Minnesota finished the year 8-4 while playing in a Big Ten Western division that regularly included ranked teams. Meanwhile, West Virginia had to pull out wins during their last two games of the year just to end the season with a .500 record (6-6).

It'll be interesting to see how this game plays out because these two teams have never met head-to-head before. Overall, the Mountaineers are 7-13 straight up in their 20 all-time games against the Big Ten Conference. Meanwhile, the Golden Gophers own an 0-4 record against Big 12 teams in bowl games.

West Virginia is set to make its 39th bowl appearance in school history and have been led by running back Leddie Brown on offense. The senior ball-carrier racked up 1,282 yards from scrimmage and scored 14 total touchdowns across 12 games played this season.

On the other side, Minnesota will look to earn its third straight bowl victory under head coach PJ Fleck. This Golden Gophers have been bolstered by a great offensive line. All five starters earned all-Big Ten honors of some sort after guiding the team to 2,575 rushing yards, its highest mark since the 2014 season.
