Twins Get Concerning News With Jorge Polanco Injury Update

The Minnesota Twins are enjoying a solid start to the 2022 MLB season and cannot afford to lose a bat at the top of the order. That's what makes Jorge Polanco's latest injury update a bit concerning. The infielder is out of the lineup for a second day in a row as he deals with some right ankle soreness.

Jorge Polanco Injury Update

Polanco started in all but one of the team's first 42 games of the year, but will be in the dugout on Wednesday when the Twins take on the Detroit Tigers. Manager Rocky Baldelli is hoping that a few days of rest will be enough at this point and that Polanco can avoid a stint on the injured list.

The 28-year-old's injury came a bit out of nowhere after he showed no symptoms during Monday night's ballgame. Seeing Polanco return before the end of the week seems like the best case scenario. Second-year pro Nick Gordon will start at shortstop in his place and bat eighth in the lineup.

The Twins are tied for the seventh-best run differential in the league (+34) and the efforts of Polanco cannot be overlooked as a main reason why. He is slashing .232/.333/.364 through 41 games to go along with 4 home runs. Polanco also leads Minnesota with 24 RBI and ranks second with 35 hits.

This is a situation worth monitoring as the Twins kick off a meaningful four-game series against the Kansas City Royals on Thursday. For now, Minnesota has odds set at +125 to win the American League Central and odds set at +3000 to win the World Series, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
