The Detroit Tigers are unhappy after being hammered, 6-1, by the Cleveland Guardians on Friday night. Although the loss is bad on its own, it certainly didn't help that Tigers starting pitcher Tarik Skubal exited the game in the fifth inning with a left leg contusion.

After the game, fans received somewhat of a mixed update on Skubal's status. The 25-year-old lefty said that he isn't too concerned about the injury, however, he was also sporting a bandage on his left shin, which is never a good sign.

Skubal's injury occurred when he was hit by a comebacker from Guardians leftfielder Ernie Clement, which had an exit velocity of 104 miles per hour. Despite how bad the injury looked at the time, Skubal feels optimistic about not missing much time.

"I'm very optimistic with what happened and where I got hit. I feel pretty good and I'm going to do everything I can to prepare to start in five days."

Tarik Skubal

Skubal is the final pitcher in Detroit's starting rotation to go down with an injury this season. He's been as solid as they come on the mound, going 3-2 in eight starts with a career-best 2.22 ERA, 1.052 WHIP and 50 strikeouts over 44.2 innings pitched.

Assuming that he's only day-to-day and doesn't miss a start, fans can expect Skubal's next appearance to be on Wednesday, May 25 against the Minnesota Twins.
