Before the Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl in February, it can be easy to forget that the team went through a good deal of adversity. Their former-MVP quarterback Patrick Mahomes was injured mid-season and they even suffered a few close defeats prior to his injury. One was at the hands of the Houston Texans.

The Chiefs and Texans took aim each other Week 6 of last year's regular season before their epic playoff game later on, and the Texans won in Kansas City, 31-24. The budding AFC rivalry will now take place in KC for the third time in less than a year on Week 1's opening night of the 2020 NFL season. Let's take a look at the odds on FanDuel Sportsbook.

Texans vs Chiefs Spread Week 1

The Texans open up with the odds thoroughly stacked against them as 10-point underdogs on the road. This is a bit surprising, but you have to figure the spread was at all influenced by the 51-31 comeback postseason win by the Chiefs earlier this year in January.

Either way, 10 points has to intrigue most football fans. The Deshaun Watson-led Texans are famous for battling out every game, causing a ton of close finishes whether they are facing the best or worst opponent on their schedule.

Houston has had a strange offseason, giving up on star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins for a more of a depth of weapons (Brandin Cooks, Randall Cobb and David Johnson added to Kenny Stills, Will Fuller and Duke Johnson Jr.). Most of their defense stayed the same.

Kansas City in turn has been quiet, retaining most of their championship roster besides cornerback Kendall Fuller. The larger question will be if there is any sort of Super Bowl hangover in 2020.

The Texans should be the hungrier football team Week 1, the losers generally are historically speaking. As for the Chiefs, how will they begin their celebration lap, and will opening night be the first step in back-to-back titles?
