The Los Angeles Angels and fantasy baseball owners might not have known what they were getting from Shohei Ohtani as he returned from offseason Tommy John surgery last week.
While the Angels inserted Ohtani right into the three-hole in their lineup, he quietly went four for his first 21 at-bats, good for a .190 batting average while tallying three RBI in his first five games back in the Majors.
After a day off, Ohtani smacked an absolute bomb to left-center field off Minnesota Twins' ace Jose Berrios last night. The former Japanese League star's first bomb of the 2019 season showed what Ohtani can bring to the table for the Angels as well as his fantasy owners.
Shohei Ohtani Stats
Coming off a season where he smacked 22 homers in 326 at-bats while also focusing on pitching, Ohtani's upside as a hitter is through the roof. With his sole job now being batting, Ohtani could be a top-100 player by season's end. Remember, he also swiped 10 bases and batted .285 with a .925 OPS while performing double duty as a pitcher and a designated hitter/outfielder.

If Ohtani is still sitting on your league's waiver wire, adding the 24-year-old DH could be the difference between some wins and losses as the season moves on. Plus, getting the three-hitter in any lineup off waivers is a gift in itself. Make Ohtani a must-add in your league so you can take part in "Sho Time" this summer.
