The NFL is gearing up to make a significant change to the 2021 schedule, adding a 17th game to the usual 16-game slate for each team. There won't be any added bye weeks, meaning players will now be asked to play 17 games in 18 weeks. It's still not official quite yet, but at this point, it would be surprising if it wasn't implemented in 2021.
The NFL had an established formula for creating the schedule each year, so the league had to find a new method to account for the extra 17th game. It's a rather confusing process, which Peter King went into detail on here. But we now have a sense on who each team will be playing in this extra game, though we still don't know when everything will occur.
And one of the most exciting matchups is a Super Bowl XL rematch between the Seattle Seahawks and Pittsburgh Steelers at Heinz Field.
Both teams had impressive 2021 regular-season campaigns, though they fell off toward the end of the year, culminating in a blowout postseason loss to a division rival for both squads. Seattle and Pittsburgh will certainly be looking for a bounce-back campaign in 2021.
The Seahawks boast a 10-8 all-time record against the Steelers, though Pittsburgh is 1-0 in the only all-time postseason meeting between these two.
Seahawks fans will certainly be looking for some revenge in the 2021 regular season.
