Coming off a disappointing loss in the World Series to the Houston Astros, the Philadelphia Phillies went right to work on their offseason. On Monday, the Phillies announced they will be declining the $17 million option on infielder Jean Segura.

Jean Segura Free Agency

This isn't a sure-fire decision that Segura won't be back in Philadelphia next season, just not at that number. Segura does receive a $1 million buyout in the transaction.

Segura had an underwhelming 2022 season which saw him put up a .277/.336/.387 slash line in the regular season, and an abysmal .214 batting average in the playoffs.

At only 32 years old, Seguara should have no problem finding suitors for next season, it just might not be in Philadelphia.

The Phillies currently hold +1800 odds to win the World Series in 2023, according to FanDuel Sportsbook's latest MLB odds.
