The Washington Nationals won't wow any fans with their current team statistics but this team is fighting past one of the league's worst offenses for a 12-14 overall record. Even with the Nationals off to a slow start, this team just jumped seven spots in ESPN's latest MLB power rankings.
Washington is 11-9 in their last 20 games despite scoring just 3.5 runs per game this season. Whatever little offense this club does display is thanks to a terrific start from shortstop Trea Turner. Turner is hitting .314 with seven home runs and 12 RBIs in 2021.
Nationals Power Rankings
The pitching staff has been a bright spot and could finish the season in the top-half of MLB pitching metrics. Currently, Washington's staff owns a 4.10 team ERA, which ranks 17th and has a 1.22 WHIP, which ranks No. 14 on amongst league leaders.
Juan Soto has been another bright spot on offense with a slashing offensive line of .288/.397/.442 along with two home runs and eight RBIs.
With a 12-14 overall record, Washington sits 1.5 games back of the Philadelphia Phillies in the NL East standings. FanDuel Sportsbook gives the Nationals an outside shot at winning the division with their +900 odds.
