Just a season ago, DeMarcus Cousins was viewed as one of the most talented big men in the NBA. Unfortunately, injuries have hampered the mercurial center's career, and recent reports are indicating he isn't receiving much interest from NBA teams in free agency.
Even so, if Cousins can prove to be healthy, his ability as a scorer, rebounder and facilitator could be impactful for a potential contender this coming season. With that in mind, here are the most likely free-agent destinations for Cousins this offseason.
3. Boston Celtics
The Boston Celtics need to add another big, and Cousins is a gamble worth taking. That said, Boston can only offer the veteran's minimum, which may seem like a deal breaker, but Cousins is allegedly meeting with the team this afternoon. If Cousins is willing to take less money, playing a significant role in Boston for one season could help rehab his value.
2. Los Angeles Lakers
If the Los Angeles Lakers miss out on Kawhi Leonard, Cousins could be an interesting target. The Lakers have max cap space available, so they could theoretically sign Cousins along with some role players like Danny Green and/or Marcus Morris. Cousins and Anthony Davis reportedly got along well in New Orleans, so a reunion in Los Angeles could make a lot of sense.
1. Dallas Mavericks
The Dallas Mavericks still have a significant portion of their cap room available, and there aren't many other big-name targets still on the market. A one-year contract could make a ton of sense on both ends, as Kristaps Porzingis is an ideal front-court pairing with Cousins. Porzingis can cover for many of Cousins' defensive deficiencies, and Boogie's low-post scoring could add a new wrinkle to Dallas' offense.
