The San Diego Padres came into the 2022 season with championship aspirations, and despite missing their star shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. for the entirety of the season thus far, they have played like contenders.
Padres Trade News
Currently sitting at 39-24, tied with the Los Angeles Dodgers for the NL West lead, the Padres are in position to add some talent at the deadline to bring them over the top.
ESPN's Bradford Doolittle recently outlined a potential trade target for the Padres at the deadline: Kansas City Royals outfielder Andrew Benintendi.
Andrew Benintendi Trade Rumors
A left-handed outfield bat is a need for the Padres and Benintendi fits that bill perfectly. Still only 27 years old, he is at the beginning of his prime and is enjoying a stellar season, batting a career-high .298 along with 2 home runs and 22 RBIs.
The Royals, currently holding the MLB's worst record, are expected to be sellers at the deadline and Benintendi might be their best and most realistic trade chip. If the Padres can win those sweepstakes, it will go a long way in helping them bring home a division crown and compete for a World Series.
