The Atlanta Braves are sitting pretty at the top of the NL Wild Card race with the end of July nearing. Adding a piece or two at the trade deadline could skyrocket their chances of repeating as World Series champs, though. One MLB insider sees Atlanta as the perfect fit for an All-Star outfielder.

Atlanta Braves Trade Rumors

Mike Petriello lists the Braves as a possible landing spot for Chicagos Cubs' outfielder Ian Happ. It makes a lot of sense considering they just lost Adam Duvall to a season-ending wrist injury. The depth behind Ronald Acuna Jr. is lacking to say the least and Happ is in the midst of a career year.

Happ is slashing .282/.367/.445 across 94 games to go along with 43 runs scored, 24 doubles, 9 home runs, 44 RBI and 6 stolen bases. More importantly, the switch-hitter has reduced his strikeout rate from 29% in 2021 to 21% in 2022. He is making contact at the plate when it matters the most.

The fact that Happ made his first All-Star game this season is going to drive his price up in a shallow outfield market. Keep in mind the 27-year-old has another year left under team control, too. The Braves do not have a single top 100 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline, so putting together a package won't be easy.

For now, Atlanta will continue rolling with veteran Eddie Rosario and exciting rookie Michael Harris II alongside Acuna in the outfield. The two have combined to post a .236 batting average on the season. FanDuel Sportsbook gives the Braves have the fifth-best odds to win the World Series at +900.
