It was only three seasons ago that Minkah Fitzpatrick requested a trade from the Miami Dolphins during Brian Flores' first year as head coach. The two have now been reunited in the Pittsburgh Steelers organization and the NFL safety had nothing but excitement to share about the situation.

Fitzpatrick expressed to reporters on Thursday that Flores is a coach this team needs given his detail-oriented mindset and ability to humble some big egos in the locker room. The 41-year-old will primarily work with the linebacker position, but has the expertise to guide anyone on defense.

"He's a great coach. I'm excited to have him. He's focused and locked in on winning, and if that's what his goal is, I'm happy to have him here."

NFL fans may be surprised to hear the praise coming from Fitzpatrick considering his trade request was centered around Flores' decision to play him at multiple positions. The Pro Bowl talent didn't feel as if his talents were being utilized correctly and it prompted a deal to Pittsburgh shortly thereafter.

It seems like Fitzpatrick is letting bygones be bygones at this point. That is great news for a player that will be asked to do a lot for the Steelers defense in 2022. After all, Fitzpatrick became the highest-paid safety in the league when he signed a four-year extension worth over $73 million.

Pittsburgh will lean on a players like Fitzpatrick in hopes that they can help carry the team to its third consecutive playoff berth. The Steelers currently have odds set at +280 to make the postseason, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
