The Denver Broncos made the decision to split ways with veteran running back Melvin Gordon on Monday. This puts an end to his run in Denver after 2.5 seasons, which were mired by fumbling troubles.
After news of his split from the team, Gordon made a strange goodbye to Broncos fans on his Instagram account.
Gordon posted a picture of himself behind the wheel of the Ford Bronco that held O.J. Simpson during his infamous highway chase with police officers. The veteran RB captioned it, "Boy y’all fans was hell lmfaooo. Thank y’all too broncos country. Let’s at least laugh on the way out.”
This is certainly a peculiar goodbye. It's clear Gordon isn't sad about parting ways with Broncos Nation, but he did extend his thanks. The former Pro Bowler at least tried to end on amicable terms with his light-hearted message about laughing on the way out, though saying the fans were "hell" likely won't win him any sympathies as he moves on.
Gordon endured his fair share of criticism in Denver, which was brought on in part by his issues with ball security. He committed 12 fumbles in just 41 games for the Broncos, and his eventual progression into a liability on offense ultimately led to the team shaking up its backfield.
It now remains to be seen if Gordon is claimed on waivers by another team. He rushed for 318 yards and 2 touchdowns in 10 games for Denver this season.
