Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Mecole Hardman has had two similar seasons to start his NFL career. However, the departure of Sammy Watkins this offseason opens up an opportunity for a Chiefs pass-catcher to be the No. 2 wideout behind Tyreek Hill.
Hardman is seen as a potential breakout candidate in 2021, and that could boost his fantasy outlook heading into this season.
Mecole Hardman Fantasy
Hardman saw an increased amount of looks in 2020 from his rookie year, though it led to basically the same production. He turned 62 targets into 41 receptions, 560 yards and 4 TDs. As a rookie, he saw 41 targets and grabbed 26 catches for 538 yards and 6 TDs.
An average of just 3.2 targets per game last season isn't much to be impressed by. However, Watkins' 55 targets in 2020 are there for the taking with no clear WR2 on the depth chart. Being the third main receiving option (aside from Hill and Travis Kelce) in an offense that recorded the third-most pass attempts per game (39.7) last season is an especially intriguing position to be in.
Entering his third season, this is the year for Kansas City to test Hardman's potential. As the curent WR58 (No. 165 overall), according to FantasyPros' Average Draft Position data, he'll be available in later rounds. Hardman could turn out to be a steal for fantasy managers who buy in early before the hype train grows.
