Tennessee Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill made headlines earlier this month when he said that it wasn't his job to mentor rookie signal-caller Malik Willis. Fortunately for the Atlanta Falcons, that isn't the type of relationship that Marcus Mariota and Desmond Ridder have.
During Thursday's OTAs, Mariota told reporters that he'd "absolutely" mentor Ridder going forward. He believes that a good QB room relationship is important and that's exactly what the Falcons need if they want to give fans something to look forward to in 2022.

Mariota embracing Ridder will likely make the latter feel more welcomed in the NFL. It won't just be a one-sided relationship, the veteran QB added, saying that he'll also rely on the rookie and any other quarterback to be a "great set of eyes" for himself.
The Falcons decided to give Mariota a second shot at being a starting NFL quarterback this offseason. He hasn't been a full-time starter since 2018, but Atlanta has faith in him providing stability at the position following Matt Ryan's departure while also being a good role model for Ridder.
The good news is that Mariota brings a lot of valuable experience that he can share with his rookie counterpart. He has 74 games (61 starts) of NFL experience, along with nearly 13,500 passing yards and 77 touchdowns.
Mariota is also signed until the end of the 2023 NFL season, giving the Falcons ample time to develop Ridder until they're confident that he can take over under center.
Desmond Ridder Offensive Rookie of the Year Odds
Although Mariota is pencilled in as the Falcons' starting quarterback, FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year odds imply that Ridder could eventually steal the job at some point. The 22-year-old currently has +1400 odds (No. 11) to be named the 2022 OROY.
