There was a major shuffle in the NBA this past offseason, and one of the teams most affected was the Los Angeles Lakers. Now restocked and reloaded with All-Star Anthony Davis in tow, the Lakers are the most popular bet to win the 2020 NBA Championship.
The Lakers are ahead of the rest of the field, both by the total number of bets and dollars waged on FanDuel Sportsbook, to potentially hoist the 2020 Larry O'Brien Trophy. The Philadelphia 76ers and Brooklyn Nets are second and third in both total bets and handle.
The Lakers' roster underwent a massive makeover this offseason, trading away Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram and Josh Hart to the Pelicans in exchange for Davis, something that gives LeBron James a true superstar sidekick. The team also added DeMarcus Cousins, Danny Green, Avery Bradley and Quinn Cook in free agency.
Surprisingly lower on the most bet lists are the Los Angeles Clippers, the current favorite (+330) to win the 2020 NBA Championship, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. The Clippers also made a splash this summer, signing Kawhi Leonard and trading for Paul George, to form a super duo of their own. The Lakers have the second-best odds to win the NBA Finals at +440.
The 2019 NBA season kicks off on Oct. 22 and will include a marquee matchup between the Lakers and the Clippers, in what should be the first of many great clashes between the top two title contenders.
