Week 1 in the NFL season featured many big performances, including reigning MVP Patrick Mahomes looking ready to repeat. Against a talented Jacksonville defense, Mahomes threw for 378 yards and three touchdowns. He broke Kurt Warner's record of most passing yards through the first 20 games in their career, except Mahomes did so in only 18 games.
Always in the MVP conversation, both Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady rose in the odds after the most recent update. The two are tied at +900 to win the award, despite very different Week 1 performances. The Packers offense struggled against the Bears, while the Patriots put on a dominating performance against the Steelers. Rodgers threw one touchdown while Brady threw three.
NFC quarterbacks Carson Wentz and Drew Brees round out the top five in the odds, at +1100 and +1200, respectively.
It's a quarterback's league, and it seems the odds reflect it. Despite the latter four not having the same performance in Week 1 as Mahomes, their teams did win, and winning means a lot when it comes to the MVP race. Who keeps doing so will play a big role in who wins the hardware later in the year.
