While the 2019 NBA MVP race has been a tight one between Giannis Antetokounmpo and James Harden, the opening odds for this year's NBA Finals MVP tell a completely different story.
Of course, you have to be a player on one of the two teams in the NBA Finals to win the award, but Giannis and Harden are both well behind Golden State Warriors' stars Kevin Durant and Steph Curry, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
Durant (+132) has quite the lead over the field too, with better than twice Curry's odds and four times that of Antetokounmpo's odds to win the award. However, Antetokounmpo (+610) does have the best odds of any player not on the Warriors' roster.
There certainly seems to be a consensus that the Warriors will at least be appearing in the 2019 NBA Finals, and Golden State currently holds a 2-0 second-round series lead over the Houston Rockets.
As for Antetokounmpo's Bucks, Milwaukee finds itself dead even 1-1 in its second-round series with the Boston Celtics heading into Game 3 at TD Garden. The Bucks are also -194 favorites to win the series, according to FanDuel Sportsbook, despite dropping Game 1 to Boston at home in Milwaukee.
While the odds certainly seem to reflect Golden State making the NBA Finals, if Giannis can carry the Bucks to an Eastern Conference title, look for the Greek Freak to be in the conversation for both the regular season and NBA Finals MVP conversation.
