James Conner Injury Update Clouds Chase Edmonds Fantasy Outlook in Week 17

James Conner was a surprise inactive for Week 16. His absence led to a huge opportunity for his backfield mate Chase Edmonds, who put up a whopping 127 yards from scrimmage in the Arizona Cardinals' Week 16 loss.

But Conner is now back at practice and will reportedly be a game-time decision. It will be important to monitor Conner's status up until kickoff, as his impending return really clouds things in this backfield.

Conner was held out last week due to a heel issue. He was able to return to practice on Thursday after missing practice all throughout the week. It sounds like we won't officially know his status until right before kickoff, so be sure to monitor the news on him carefully.

Chase Edmonds Fantasy Outlook

If Conner can't suit up, Edmonds would be a high-end RB2 this weekend. He saw 25 opportunities last week (16 carries plus 9 targets), turning that into 127 yards from scrimmage and a TD against the stout Indianapolis Colts' defense.

He'll get a decent matchup this week against a Dallas Cowboys' defense that ranks No. 19 in rush defense by DVOA. If he sees another 25-plus opportunities, Edmonds could be in line for a big week.

If Conner does end up being active, Edmonds would be more of an RB3 or FLEX option, and his ability as a receiver would make him particularly attractive in PPR formats. Either way, it'll be important to monitor Conner's status up until kickoff.
