After losing Kevin Gausman in free agency, the San Francisco Giants were expected to lean a little more heavily on returning starting pitcher Anthony DeSclafani. That didn't pan out to begin the year when DeSclafani pitched to a 6.08 ERA in his first three starts before landing on the IL.

The veteran righty missed nearly two months with right ankle inflammation but the news around his impending return continues to bring great fortunes to the Bay Area.

Anthony DeSclafani Injury Update

Giants insider Evan Webeck reported late on Monday night that DeSclafani will make his official return on Tuesday to start against the Atlanta Braves.

With the ankle injury behind him, DeSclafani is poised to return to the same form he displayed during San Francisco's magical run in 2021. The eight-year pro pitched to a 3.17 ERA across 31 outings, and lead the league with two shutouts. His 1.091 WHIP was also the best mark of his MLB career.

This is an important addition for a San Francisco team that ranked second overall in team ERA a year ago, but sits just 14th in 2022. Logan Webb and newcomer Carlos Rodon have been terrific with a 3.26 and 2.84 ERA, respectively, but the rotation is looking for additional depth thanks to an injury to Jakob Junis.

San Francisco looks to bounce back after Monday's walk-off loss in Atlanta. The two sides are back in action on Tuesday night, and San Francisco enters the matchup as +150 moneyline underdogs, according to MLB odds on FanDuel Sportsbook.
