Giants Sign Free Agent Wide Receiver-Turned-Tight End

The New York Giants have made a clear effort to surround Daniel Jones with weapons in the passing game.
The wide receiver corps in New York now includes Kenny Golladay, Darius Slayton, Sterling Shepard, first-round pick Kadarius Toney, John Ross and Dante Pettis. That made it surprising when they worked out former Carolina Panthers wideout Kelvin Benjamin.
Now, the reason for the workout has been revealed. The Giants are signing Benjamin to play tight end, not wide receiver.

Kelvin Benjamin Giants
Benjamin had a very promising start to his career, catching 136 passes for 1,949 yards and 16 touchdowns in his first two seasons with the Carolina Panthers.
He only went on to play two more NFL seasons, however, catching 73 passes for 1,072 yards and 4 TDs in 2017 and 2018.
A big-bodied receiver, rumblings that the 6-foot-5 245-pound Benjamin should play tight end instead of wide receiver are nothing new.
With the NFL getting increasingly pass-heavy, Benjamin's lack of experience as a blocker shouldn't be too much of a detriment.
It's also worth noting that Benjamin blocked well for a wideout. In 2018, Pro Football Focus gave him a solid 67.5 run blocking grade,
He's still not even a lock to make the final roster, but converting Benjamin to tight end is a great low-risk, high-reward move from the Giants.
