Entering the final season of his rookie contract, 2021 is a make or break year for New York Giants tight end Evan Engram. The talented tight end has yet to live up to his potential due to injuries and drops throughout his career, but there was optimism surrounding him heading into the year.
Evan Engram Injury Update
However, after recording 3 catches early in the Giants' final preseason contest, Engram left the game with a hamstring injury and was seen limping off the field.
Now it appears the soon to be 27-year-old tight end will be missing extended time. New York is even considering placing him on the IR.
Now that Engram has made the Giants 53-man roster, heading to the IR isn't the worst thing in the world. Engram will be eligible to return after three weeks on the IR, rather than miss the entire season, so Giants fans can breathe a sigh of relief here.
This is the most talented skill position group the Giants have had in years and the best Daniel Jones has ever had surrounding him. Engram was set to be a big part of that considering he can be a matchup nightmare for opposing linebackers when he's healthy.
It seems clear that Engram will at least miss Week 1 against the Denver Broncos, and the potential to miss multiple weeks seems likely at this point. You just hope this isn't a hamstring issue that lingers beyond that.
The Giants are 2.5-point home underdogs against the Denver Broncos in Week 1, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
