Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Pickups for Week 17
By Zach Brunner

This could prove to be a big week in fantasy baseball, with the July 31 MLB Trade Deadline this Wednesday. Rosters will surely be shaken up, with All-Stars and under-the-radar players likely to be on the move before week's end.
With lots of trades expected to happen in the next 48 hours, here are five players you should consider picking up off the waiver wire for Week 17 of the 2019 fantasy baseball season.
1. Zac Gallen, SP, Miami Marlins
Zac Gallen had the best start in his young career during his last outing, one in which he allowed just two hits while striking out nine for his first MLB win. Gallen misses plenty of bats and now has a 2.76 ERA and 1.23 WHIP in six starts for Miami. He's scheduled to face the Minnesota Twins at home on Tuesday, making him worth a pickup this week.
2. Brandon Belt, 1B/OF, San Francisco Giants
Brandon Belt has struggled over the past two weeks, batting .217 with just one home run, but he's proven to be a better hitter than his .233 batting average this season. This upcoming road trip should also benefit him, as the Giants travel to both Philadelphia and Colorado. He's expected to face five right-handed starters this week too, another perk for Belt as he's been better against righties, batting .245 with eight home runs in 2019, compared to .200 and three jacks against lefties.
3. Kole Calhoun, OF, Los Angeles Angles
Kole Calhoun has had a great month of July, batting .286 with 13 runs, six home runs and 16 RBI in 19 games. He's always been a streaky hitter and there's even a chance he gets traded before Wednesday's trade deadline. Picking up the outfielder could be a smart play while he's on a hot streak heading into August.
4. Jose Urquidy, SP, Houston Astros
This pickup is contingent on the Houston Astros not trading for another pitcher, which would likely push Jose Urquidy out of their starting rotation. The 24-year-old is scheduled to start on July 31 and already has 23 Ks in 19 innings pitched this season. As long as he stays in the Houston rotation, Urquidy is a high-upside pickup in season-long and keeper/dynasty leagues.
5. Clint Frazier, OF/DH, New York Yankees
Due to a talented Yankees roster, Clint Frazier has been with Triple-A for over a month now. However, Frazier is slashing .283/.330/.513 with the big club this season. With the July 31 Trade Deadline now just days away, it could be worth picking up Frazier as a speculative add in hopes he gets traded this week.
