It can be awkward facing your old team, especially in the playoffs.

That's how shortstop Edmundo Sosa felt last month. The St. Louis Cardinals traded him to the Philadelphia Phillies in late July, unwittingly helping their future postseason opponent.

Sosa immediately caught fire with the Phillies, batting .315/.345/.593 in 25 games after the trade, helping them secure a playoff spot. As fate would have it, the two teams clashed during the NL Wild Card Round, which Philadelphia swept, 2-0.

While Sosa was happy to move on, part of him felt bad about ending his former team's season.

Sosa developed strong ties to the Cardinals after spending a decade with the organization. He signed with St. Louis as a 16-year-old kid in 2012 and worked his way through the farm system before debuting in 2018.

Making the victory even more bittersweet for Sosa was knowing that 2022 was the final season for Cardinals legends Albert Pujols and Yadier Molina, both of whom were shooting for one more ring before hanging it up.

Now Sosa is the one with his eye on a championship, as the Phillies are just two wins away from a title. They'll have to get through the Houston Astros first, who are currently -180 favorites to win the Fall Classic on FanDuel Sportsbook's MLB odds.
