Dolphins Continue Recent Trend in Todd McShay's Latest 2022 NFL Mock Draft
An impressive seven-game win streak to close the year saved face for the Miami Dolphins' season, but they still opted for big offseason changes. The franchise hired former San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel as its next head coach.
This offensive-minded coach already has excitement building for the futures of Tua Tagovailoa and Jaylen Waddle, and could surround the dynamic pair with help according to Todd McShay's latest 2022 NFL Mock Draft.
The selection continues an interest early draft trend in Miami.
Dolphins Mock Draft
McShay has the Dolphins taking Northern Iowa offensive tackle Trevor Penning with the No. 29 overall pick. Miami owns this pick via a past trade with the 49ers.
In the past three years, Miami has used four picks on the O-line during Day 1 or Day 2 of the NFL Draft. Despite their efforts, the offensive line remained a disaster in 2021 and allowed the 11th-most sacks in the NFL. Miami also rushed for the third-fewest yards (92.2 yards per game) across the league this past season.
At nearly 6-foot-7 and 330 pounds, Penning is profiled as dominant blocker who could have played for a Power Five conference football. He boasts good size and length for his frame; he's also quick enough on his feet to make a wide impact in multiple blocking schemes.
Dolphins fans will hope Penning bucks the recent trend of Miami whiffing on its recent O-line draftees if the team does select him in April.
