The NFL world was turned on its head last week when the Carolina Panthers traded All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey to the San Francisco 49ers. More details are emerging about how all of the negotiations went down, including a committed pursuit from the Super Bowl favorite Buffalo Bills.

Buffalo Bills Christian McCaffrey

NFL insider Albert Breer reported that the Bills, along with the 49ers, were one of the first teams to call Carolina about McCaffrey on October 14. At that point, the Panthers were looking for a first-round pick in return. That price was too high for a Buffalo front office aiming to deal a second-round pick.

Buffalo's inquiry made a ton of sense considering Bills GM Brandon Beane was part of the Panthers' front office that that selected McCaffrey with the No. 8 overall pick in 2017. The Bills "kept tabs on the situation" throughout the day, but the price point never came down to a comfortable level for them.

The 49ers ended up meeting Carolina's expectations by offering a second-, third-, fourth- and fifth-rounder in exchange for McCaffrey. The Panthers accepted and the former Stanford standout suited up for head coach Kyle Shanahan in Week 7. McCaffrey totaled 62 yards on 10 touches (22 snaps).

The Bills will keep pushing forward with the likes of Devin Singletary, Zack Moss and Jame Cook in the backfield. It's a trio that has combined for only 438 rushing yards and 1 touchdown on 93 carries. Adding a player like CMC to the mix would've given quarterback Josh Allen a true workhorse RB.

Buffalo still has the best odds to win Super Bowl 57 at +270, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
