Dan Campbell Reveals Plans for Starters in Final Preseason Game

With the start of the NFL regular season approaching, teams are looking to get their starters in the swing of things as the preseason begins to wind down.
The Detroit Lions are one such team, as head coach Dan Campbell has said he plans to play most of his starters during the team's third and final preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, August 28.
Lions' Dan Campbell says the starters will play in Game 3 of the preseason this weekend in Pittsburgh. Adds that Jared Goff will not play, and no, the QB won't be able to change his mind.

One notable exception, however, is starting quarterback Jared Goff. Tim Boyle is expected to start under center instead.
The Lions have received extra attention this preseason thanks to their appearance on HBO's Hard Knocks series, which has chronicled their efforts to improve from a disappointing 2021 campaign. Detroit went just 3-13-1 last year after trading longtime quarterback Matthew Stafford to the Los Angeles Rams, where he promptly won the Super Bowl in his first season out west.
After splitting their first two preseason games, the Lions will try to close out their preseason on a high note against the Steelers, who have won both of their preseason games thus far. Pittsburgh's currently listed as -3.5 home favorites on FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds.
