Curtis Samuel's Role in Washington Could Be Bigger Than You Expect

The Washington Football Team addressed a key need by signing rising wideout Curtis Samuel in free agency to bolster their receiving corps. Samuel fits in perfectly alongside Terry McLaurin and new slot receiver Adam Humphris as the team hopes veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick can lead them further in the playoffs in 2021.

The Samuel signing was already considered a win. But Washington Football Team offensive coordinator Scott Turner is teasing big things for Samuel that should excite fans.

Turner believes that Samuel is just "scratching the surface on what he's capable of." While some may think it's a coach hyping up a recent signing, if anyone knows what Samuel can do, it's Turner. He was on Ron Rivera's Carolina Panthers staff during Samuel's first few years in the league and saw the receiver's talent up close.

Samuel is coming off of a breakout year for the Panthers in 2020. He posted career highs in receptions (77), yards (851) and catch rate (79.4%) despite Carolina's lacking QB talent. Now he'll feature on a re-tooled Washington offense and be in position for a career season with Fitz under center.

The former college running back's increasing yearly production as a wideout at the next level showcases the potential waiting to be tapped. His deal could turn out to be a steal for Washington as they continue to build out a possible Super Bowl contender.
