Cubs News: Chicago Gets Great Ryan Tepera Injury Update

As the MLB All-Star break approaches, the Chicago Cubs own a disappointing 43-45 record and are in danger of missing the playoffs. At a time when the Cubs could use all the help that they can get to make a postseason push, Chicago got some great news on Thursday regarding one of its relievers.
The Cubs activated right-handed pitcher Ryan Tepera from the injured list on Friday, according to Forbes Sports' Jared Wyllys. The 33-year-old veteran was placed on the 10-day IL on June 29 with a calf strain.
Cubs announce that Ryan Tepera has been reinstated from the IL. Kyle Ryan recalled, and Cory Abbott has been sent to Iowa.

Brad Weick is also going to the IL with irregular heartbeat.
Ryan Tepera Injury Update
In a season where the Cubs pitchers own a 4.10 team ERA (14th), Tepera has been one player who's kept that number lower than it could be. Through 37 appearances in 2021, he's pitched to an 0-2 record with a 3.35 ERA and one save in 37.2 innings pitched. Tepera — who finished 18th in National League MVP voting last season — has also struck out 9.8 batters per 9 IP and owns a career-low 4.5 H/9 IP.
If Tepera does take to the mound on Friday, he'll be facing the 54-32 San Francisco Giants at 9:45 p.m. ET. He's yet to record a win against the Giants, having gone 0-2 in five prior appearances against them. During that span, Tepera owns a 4.15 ERA through just 4.1 IP.
The Nationals will also enter Friday's game as the +132 underdogs, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. Meanwhile, the Giants are favored to win at -156 odds. Over 8.5 runs is the -120 favored total for the game.
