Chase Claypool Joins All-Time Great Company With 10th TD in 2020
By Max Staley
Pittsburgh Steelers rookie wide receiver Chase Claypool entered the year with some lofty expectations. The team just can't seem to miss when it comes to drafting wideouts, so picking Claypool in the second round meant he had a lot to live up to.
And yet, Claypool has exceeded even the most optimistic of projections. With another touchdown grab in Week 11, the Notre Dame product has now scored 10 touchdowns in 10 games, putting the rookie in some truly historic company.
Claypool is now just the fourth rookie wide receiver in league history to score 10 TDs in his first 10 career games. He joins Bill Howton, Bill Groman and Harlon Hill as the only other wide receivers to have accomplished this feat.
Interestingly, all of those campaigns came before 1961, meaning no one has done this in the last 59 seasons. That's just incredible.
Claypool is now just 1 TD behind Franco Harris and Louis Lipps for the most single-season TDs ever by a Steelers' rookie. With the way he's playing right now, Claypool could break this record in the next few weeks and set a new mark that could stand for quite some time.
Not bad for a guy who many thought should play tight end at the next level.
