NFL training camp is right around the corner, which means veterans and rookies alike are going to be battling it out for the last few roster spots available. That includes players on the Denver Broncos, as team insider Jeff Legwold recently revealed one veteran in danger of being cut before Week 1.
Denver Broncos News
Legwold explained that linebacker Malik Reed's spot on the roster is far from guaranteed at this point. The three-year pro has played well for Denver in his career, racking up 123 tackles, 15.0 sacks and 3 forced fumbles across 45 games. The fact is he may be the odd man out at the position, though.
The Broncos have worked hard to form one of the best linebacker groups in the NFL. Randy Gregory was signed to a massive five-year deal in free agency after a career year in Dallas (6.0 sacks). He joins Bradley Chubb, Josey Jewell, and fellow free agent signing Alex Singleton (137 tackles in 2021).
Denver didn't just stop there, either. The front office drafted Oklahoma standout Nik Bonnito in the second round this past April after he racked up 19.5 sacks in his college career. That leaves Reed fighting it out with Jonathon Cooper and Baron Browning for a spot on the depth chart this fall.
It's worth mentioning that the Broncos have an entirely new coaching staff heading into training camp, led by head coach Nathaniel Hackett. Reed may have to prove his worth all over again. Denver has the eighth-best odds to win Super Bowl 57 at +1700, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
