After losing shortstop Dansby Swanson in the offseason, the Atlanta Braves are trying to reinforce their infield depth before Opening Day. Vaughn Grissom will be the starter, but his lack of experience clearly leaves Atlanta wanting some backup options should things take a bad turn.

The club accomplished this on Monday by bringing back veteran infielder Adeiny Hechavarria on a minor league deal.

Hechavarria last played for the Braves in 2020, the same year of his last MLB stop. The 33-year-old began his career as an everyday shortstop for the Miami Marlins from 2013-17 before bouncing around five different clubs since then.

Profiled as a contact-first hitter, the new Braves' minor leaguer owns a career slash line of .253/.291/.351 across 922 games. He was also known as a plus-defender, offering the Braves a lifeline should Grissmon get off to a slow start or deal with major injuries.

For now, the Braves hold +1000 odds to win the 2023 World Series on FanDuel Sportsbook.
