It's safe to say the Buffalo Bills head into the 2022 NFL season with come high expectations. In fact, they currently lead the league with +700 odds to win Super Bowl 57, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. Head coach Sean McDermott's squad could benefit from adding a free agent or two, though.

There are a few holes on this roster, but the lack of depth in the secondary may stick out the most. The Bills are set to lose starting cornerback Levi Wallace to the open market, which is why they should steal ballhawk Devin McCourty away from the divisional rival New England Patriots.

Bills Free Agency

McCourty is the definition of an NFL veteran. He has spent all 12 season of his career with the Patriots and earned two Pro Bowl bids to go along with three Lombardi Trophies. His experience alone would improve a Buffalo defense that already posted the best total DVOA rating in 2021.

Not only is the 34-year-old a knowledgeable vet, but he is still a key contributor as well. McCourty has racked up 186 tackles, 23 pass breakups and 10 interceptions over the last three seasons. He also hasn't missed a game since 2015, which would definitely come in handy for the Bills moving forward.

Yes, McCourty has played the free safety position for most of his career. However, he did start out as a cornerback and has the coverage skills needed to shift back into that role. His versatility is part of what has made him so valuable for Bill Belichick.

It's definitely going to take some convincing from the Bills to pry McCourty away from his long-time home. Offering up a short-term deal may do the trick, though. That's really Buffalo's best option given they barely sit below the salary cap limit right now.
