The Cincinnati Bengals may have a matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship game to focus on, but that didn't stop them from making their first big move of the NFL offseason. The front office is keeping quarterbacks coach Dan Pitcher around with a new contract extension.

Cincinnati Bengals News

NFL insider Ian Rapoport explains that while in-season extensions for coaches are rare, the Bengals wanted to be proactive in their attempt to keep Pitcher in Cincinnati. The 36-year-old has been with the team since 2016 and has played a key role in helping Joe Burrow develop into a budding star QB.

Pitcher was receiving interest around the NFL as an offensive coordinator hire. He finished a virtual interview with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and was contacted by the Baltimore Ravens. It should not be a shock given the Bengals have ranked as a top-10 scoring offense in each of the last two years.

Burrow speaks highly of the coaching staff placed around him, saying "it's a collaborative effort that everyone puts in so everyone can take ownership." The 2019 No. 1 overall pick has completed 68.2% of his pass attempts for 11,774 yards and 82 touchdowns (31 interceptions) in 42 career NFL starts.

Winning is going to keep head coach Zac Taylor's staff in contention for outside jobs, but its' safe to say that's a price he is willing to pay for a Lombardi Trophy. Pitcher will look to assist Burrow in his goal of posting a 4-0 record against the Chiefs with a second straight AFC Championship on Sunday.
