When the Chicago Bears drafted David Montgomery in the third round of the 2019 NBA Draft, he was brought in to be their lead back in the running game. While his rookie season had its ups and downs, he saw significant improvements across the board in year two, posting improved numbers in virtually every statistical category.
That being said, it was clear there is still room for improvement for the soon-to-be third year back. As Montgomery and the Bears prepare for the 2021 campaign, Chicago is expecting a big jump from the Iowa State product cross the board again.
Montgomery rushed for over 1,000 yards in 2020 after a stellar second half of the season, finishing with the fifth-most rushing yards in the NFL.
Chicago expects him to up that number in 2021. While Tarik Cohen's return and the singing of Damien Williams will cut into his passing game and overall usage a bit, Montgomery is still the team's workhorse running back.
If Montgomery can make the improvements the team is hoping for and expecting, Chicago's backfield could quickly become one of the most dangerous and versatile in the league.
